A Cost Controller's Checklist for 3D Printing and CNC Sourcing Decisions

Three years ago, I almost signed a $14,000 tooling contract because it was $3,000 lower than the next quote. It looked like a win. Then I read the assumptions: no calibration certificate, no packaging for sensitive components, no second-round engineering support. The real cost was higher than the 'premium' vendor. This checklist is for procurement managers, shop owners, and anyone responsible for buying manufacturing services. It is not for buyers who need one-off parts tomorrow.
