Here's my opinion, and I'm not going to dress it up: if you need a part by a hard date, pay for delivery certainty.

Time certainty is a product. Buy it when you need it.

Missing a milestone costs more than a rush fee. The vendor who says "guaranteed" in a vague way is not giving you a guarantee. The vendor who puts a confirmed slot in writing is.

Ask for the confirmed production slot and the delivery commitment. Then pay for it if you need it. I've saved this company thousands by waiting out a quote. I've also saved us by spending more when it mattered.
